Founded in 1987, the British-American Business Association (BABA) is the premier business forum for British and American companies, organizations and business professionals in the mid-Atlantic region, with members from Baltimore, MD, through DC to Richmond VA and into western Virginia. Through a variety of programs, BABA members exchange valuable information, establish networks, and pursue mutual interests.
BABA’s committees are responsible for organizing many of the Association’s activities. From business roundtables to briefings, social events, and engagements with the British Embassy our committees offer something for everyone. Serving on a committee is a great way to give input to BABA’s programming and develop or hone leadership skills. A description of each committee follows.
The Defense, Aerospace, Transportation & Security (DATS) Committee of BABA is responsible for promoting the understanding and discussion of key political, economic, and industrial issues impacting its four business sectors. US and UK bipartisan government and corporate leaders in the DATS sectors are invited to address specific topics that are of interest to the Committee, the BABA membership, and the broader community.
The Financial Services Committee provides a forum to identify, discuss, and understand key financial issues affecting the UK and U.S. interests. Some topics discussed include financial products and instruments, the stock market, banking, crypto currency, FINRA, Sarbanes Oxley, the SEC and more.
The Marketing Committee is charged with overseeing outreach to current and prospective members via the following activities:
The Program Committee organizes a wide-rane of business events not covered by the sector-oriented Committees and Groups. These include the Executive Speaker Series, the annual Gala Christmas luncheon, cultural events at the British Embassy and sporting events like polo soccer, golf, rugby and the Gold Cup Steeplechase.
This committee focuses on timely topics in the technology sector including but not limited to Artificial Intelligence, social media, 5G/broadband/spectrum, big data, net neutrality, FCC regulation and more. The committee will host regular calls or zooms for members to touch base on emerging issues and host thought leadership events on big picture ideas and concepts in the tech space.
